I have friends who work from home through their employer, as a business owner or content creator and have always found it interesting. Recently unemployment claims went up to more than 3 million, passing the Great Recession peak of 665,000.
Working remote sounds like a no brainer for a lot of people right now. But like anything in life, finding a remote job comes with its own set of challenges.
According to FlexJobs, for every one legitimate work-from-home job, there are nearly 60 to 70 work-from-home job scams.

- Avoid ads that say “Unlimited earning potential,” “Investment opportunities and seminars” or “Quick money.”
- Avoid sharing any personal financial information early in the interview process or as part of your application, sure fire sign of a scam.
- Avoid remote work scams that say “you’re hired” without anyone ever contacting you or asking for references.
- Search the Better Business Bureau and the Federal Trade Commission websites to make sure remote work companies are valid and remember to look up the companies name on a search engine for added measure.

FlexJobs is one of the largest and most popular platforms to find remote work. Members can search for remote based on their career field and get access to full-time, part-time and freelance opportunities.
FreeUp is a great site for those with e-commerce industry experience. think… customer service, social media management, SEO, email marketing, data entry and the likes. With this platform you’re put through a vetting process before being able to join the site. When given access you must have a resume, portfolio and information about your services or skills to go with your profile.
Regarding freelance work, Fiver and upwork are great!
Remote.co is a free online job board that posts jobs for developers, customer service representatives, designers, sales professionals and editors, to name a few. Great resource!
Boldly connects you with work from home/W-2 positions, meaning those hired will be treated as staff employees and receive Boldly company benefits, rather than being contractors. Commitment wise, Boldly requires workers to be available during normal business hours and commit to 20 hours of work per week.
Those interested in the Boldly platform will have to apply and go through an interview beforehand.
Outsourcely is a platform that connects remote freelancers with companies looking for part-time and full-time workers, ranging from project managers, to virtual assistants and email marketers. If you have any previous experience working remotely, be sure you mention that in your cover letter and resume. But if you haven’t worked remotely, you should spotlight some of your professional skills and experience that’s relevant to remote work.
